EDIT: The original review still stands, but I wanted to update to say that Ollny customer service reached out to me after I posted my review. I was really impressed with the speed with which they contacted me and the apology offered. They've said my comments have been passed on to see what can be done to improve the product. I think this is the first time a supplier has contacted me in this way and I'm really impressed. If I could give a separate star rating for customer care, they would receive a full 5.
Hopefully they'll make some improvements to the Alexa compatibility, because the overall product isn't bad.
Ok, I was going to buy Govee lights, but went for these as they were cheaper… bit of a mistake. The lights are fine and everything seems well made. The Ollny control app is OK, but not as good as Govee. Lots of different pre-set scenes etc, but not many that look that great when you set them up as a standard festoon arrangement.
The big issue is getting them to work with Alexa. It turns out the Ollny skill is not available for Alexa in the UK (I only learned this after 2 hours of installing the lights)… if I'd known that I would never have bought them. Lots LOTS of searching online suggested 3 separate apps that apparently support these lights and work with Alexa – save yourself the trouble of trying them all, only 1 could I get to find and connect to the lights and have a working skill in Alexa, something called "Surplife". The app is almost identical to the Ollny version. So, after hours of trying and swearing they are finally connected to Alexa. Was it worth the hassle? Nope, I really don't think it was.
They look fine, but the hassle has really annoyed me to the point where I'd rather not have them.
