Why did I create Padlock?

Hi, I’m Ewan, the creator of Padlock App! Just like you’re probably doing now, I was losing hours a day to my phone and was looking for a way to block distracting apps that actually worked!

Unfortunately, I found that existing solutions didn’t work – they were either too easy to bypass in a moment of weakness, or they locked my entire phone away in a lock box – impractical when phones are needed for every day life!

I tried everything but nothing worked, so I decided to build my own solution that did exactly what I needed.

But wait so there’s really no way to access my distractions?

Yep – in fact it’s so effective I still use my very own Padlock to this day! Once your distractions are locked, there no way to access them!

I had to make sure that the emergency unlock system didn’t provide a way for me to bypass the restrictions and defeat the point of Padlock. By default you get 3 instant unlocks, refilled when you reinstall the app so there’s friction involved in using them.

However if that’s not enough, in strict mode you must wait 12 hours before they unlock, long enough you won’t use it when procrastinating!
